What are EU budget questions?

EU budget questions test your knowledge of how the Union finances itself: the Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF), own resources (customs duties, VAT, GNI-based contributions), spending headings, and special instruments like NextGenerationEU.

The current MFF (2021-2027) and the €806.9 billion NextGenerationEU recovery fund are heavily tested. Know the largest spending categories (cohesion, agriculture/CAP, research/Horizon Europe) and how the EU budget differs from national budgets.

Tips for EU budget questions

1

The MFF sets maximum amounts (ceilings), not the actual annual budget β€” know the difference

2

The EU budget must be balanced β€” no deficit spending (unlike national budgets)

3

Know the three traditional own resources: customs duties, VAT-based, GNI-based

4

NextGenerationEU is financed by EU borrowing β€” a historic first
