The 5 EPSO tests at a glance

Every EPSO Genius practice test follows the format of the EPSO computer-based tests (CBT): the same number of questions, the same time limit and the same number of answer options. Practising at real speed matters: in abstract reasoning you have one minute per question.

TestQuestionsTimePer questionAnswer options
Verbal Reasoning2035 min105 s4
Numerical Reasoning1020 min120 s5
Abstract Reasoning1010 min60 s5
EU Knowledge3040 min80 s4
Digital Skills4030 min45 s4

Format of the 2026 EPSO competitions (Official Journal C, 5 February 2026). CAST selections use only the three reasoning tests. Always check your own notice of competition.

The test engine gives you the same tools as EPSO's TAO testing platform: an on-screen calculator, a notepad, a button to strike out answer options, a flag to come back to a question and a review screen before you submit.

How to use these EPSO practice tests

  1. 1.

    Start with the free diagnostic

It covers all 5 sections and shows where you lose the most points, so you know which test to practise first.

  2. 2.

Practise one section at a time

Work on your weakest test in short sessions. Read the explanation for every question you miss: most errors come from a handful of recurring traps.

  3. 3.

    Finish with timed mock exams

In the last weeks, take full tests under real time pressure to fix your pacing. Exam mode (Pro) reproduces the complete test without pauses.

EPSO practice tests: frequently asked questions

Are these EPSO practice tests free?â–¼

Yes. The free plan includes one 10-question test a day in any of the 5 EPSO test types, with no credit card, and every new account starts with 7 days of unlimited practice. Pro removes the daily limit and adds exam mode and detailed analytics.

How close are they to the real EPSO tests?â–¼

They follow the format set in the EPSO notices of competition: number of questions, time limits and 4 or 5 answer options depending on the test. The questions are original and written in the EPSO style; they are not copies of real EPSO questions.

Which EPSO tests will I have to take?â–¼

It depends on the profile. AD and AST generalist competitions use all five test types, while CAST selections for contract staff use only verbal, numerical and abstract reasoning. The notice of competition or call for expression of interest lists the exact tests.

What score do I need to pass the EPSO tests?â–¼

Pass marks are set in each notice of competition. The reasoning tests are usually eliminatory: in recent competitions, candidates needed 10/20 in verbal reasoning and 10/20 across numerical and abstract reasoning combined. Aim well above the threshold, because places on the reserve list are limited.

Is the test interface like the real EPSO platform?â–¼

The real tests run remotely on EPSO's TAO platform, with an on-screen calculator, a notepad, answer elimination and a bookmark for questions to revisit; paper and physical calculators are not allowed. EPSO Genius reproduces these tools, and its exam mode (Pro and CAST) the official timing. The look is not identical to TAO, and the highlighter and line reader are not included.
